A female was arrested after brandishing a replica gun inside 7-Eleven Monday morning.

Sgt. Steve McLeod of the Williams Lake RCMP said the detachment received a report shortly after 6 a.m. that a female was waiving what appeared to be a handgun around inside the store.

When police arrived at the store, the suspect walked out and started walking towards an RCMP member.

“The members yelled commands for the female to stop but she continued to advance towards [the member]” McLeod says.

“As she was walking towards him, she fumbled with what appeared to be a large handgun, which fell to the ground. At that point our member was able to grab the female and take her into custody without any further harm to the public.”

McLeod says the RCMP have learned that the suspect had been in the store and, at some point when she was asked to leave, pulled out what appeared to be a firearm and waived it around.

“That is when staff called the police,” McLeod says, adding that the firearm has since been determined to be a replica. “This situation could have turned out much worst had the female confronted the police with this replica firearm. On first glance it certainly could have appeared to be real.”

The female, from Williams Lake, was arrested and has since been released to appear in court at a later date.
