Fatal collision shuts down highway

Highway 4A remains closed in both directions as RCMP investigate a collision near Errington.

Members of the Oceanside RCMP and Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services are currently investigating a collision on Highway 4A near Errington Road in Errington.

First responders were called to the area at approximately 10:30 a.m, after witnesses observed the collision reportedly involving a commercial dump truck and a small passenger car.

Because the collision resulted in a death, an RCMP traffic analyst has been called in to assist with the investigation.

Highway 4A remains closed in both directions three km west of the junction with Highway 19 while investigators gather evidence in an attempt to determine the specifics of the collision.

According to DriveBC, the estimated time of reopening is 6 p.m. Drivers are asked to take a detour on Errington Road and Coombs Station Road up to Grafton.
