Employee tests positive for COVID-19 at McDonald’s restaurant in Chilliwack

One case was detected at the Vedder Road location, which briefly closed its doors

A Chilliwack McDonald’s location was briefly shut down last weekend after a worker tested positive for COVID-19.

In a news release, the fast-food chain said that an employee at the Vedder Road restaurant (5718 Vedder)

tested positive Nov. 21.

According to McDonald’s, that location was immediately closed down to allow for “thorough cleaning and sanitizing by a third party,” and has since re-opened.

The employee’s last shift was on Nov. 17, from 3 to 10 p.m. and all workers who may have been in close contact with that person have been asked to self-quarantine until more info is available.

McDonald’s suggests anyone who visited the restaurant on Nov. 17 visit bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19 for directions.

That location is a couple blocks away from G.W. Graham secondary school.

McDonald’s has taken steps to protect customers and employees during the pandemic, including the installation of hand sanitizer dispensers, physical-distancing floor markers and protective screens at the front counter.

Employees are required to wear gloves for taking payment and serving guests, and wear masks at all times while working in the restaurant.

“Maintaining the health and well-being of our crew and guests is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor and adapt measures, where necessary,” the news release read. “We continue to work with local health authorities to support our people and our guests, and look forward to getting back to serving our community.”
