Some drivers, angry at a delay of 45 minutes to an hour caused by RCMP investigating a serious crash on Highway 1 at Cedar Road, boiled over Aug. 22.

Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien later reminded people that the officers involved were securing an accident scene, recovering information crucial for their investigation.

“All people have to do is stop for a second and think what would they do if that was one of their family members injured in that car accident?” O’Brien said.

The accident, involving a sedan and an SUV, occurred at about 12:30 p.m.

The driver of the sedan, a 35-year-old male, was transported to Victoria General Hospital with critical, but non-life threatening injuries.

All southbound Hwy 1 traffic was blocked while police investigated, causing significant backups.
