Fire department auctions off unclaimed bikes to support internal professional development

The Langford Fire Department bike auction took place last weekend at Fire Hall No. 2, where recovered bicycles that have not been claimed by their owners after a significant period of time are auctioned off to the public.

The events are held, according to Langford Fire Department Assistant Chief Chris Aubrey, not necessarily annually, or even at regular intervals, but “once we have enough bikes to make a day of it.”

$1,081.75 was raised at last week’s event.

The funds raised from the auction go towards the department’s Ridealong Fund, which allows for members to travel to other departments around the world to learn how others go about performing the service of protecting their communities.
