Distracted driver claims ticket

Pay attention while driving, say police

There is no shortage of things to look at in beautiful Oceanside, but police would rather you keep your eyes on the road, if you’re behind the wheel of a car.

That message came from Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol this week in light of a three-car crash on Wednesday afternoon.

He said the crash happened on Island Highway east, just past Franklin Gull Road.

“A Nissan car driven by a 63-year-old woman from Nanoose Bay collided with a vehicle that was stopped in traffic,” he said. “This vehicle then hit another vehicle in front of it, which was also stopped.”

The Nissan driver, he said, was distracted at the time of the crash.

“She indicated that she was looking at people on the opposite side of the road. When she looked forward, she couldn’t stop in time.”

The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was treated at the scene and released. She is facing a charge under the Motor Vehicle Act of driving without due care and attention.              — Neil Horner
