Crews respond quickly to Fruitvale shed fire

Wednesday night fire quickly contained

A quick response by local fire crews late Wednesday night prevented potentially more damage.

Firefighters from Trail, Montrose and Fruitvale quickly responded to a shed fire at 25 Kootenay Ave. in Fruitvale just before 11:30 p.m.

While fire control was established in less than 10 minutes, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue captain Jason Milne said the nearby home did suffer some heat damage.

“It was close to the house and there was some heat damage,” he confirmed.

Milne added anytime a structure fire is reported, the response includes as much manpower as possible.

Eight firefighters from Co. 6 in Fruitvale, three firefighters from Co. 5 in Montrose and two firefighters from Co. 4 in Trail responded to the fire and had the incident under control shortly before 1 a.m.

Milne didn’t want to speculate on the cause of the fire.

“The crew is on scene now doing an investigation,” he told the Trail Times Thursday morning.
