CRD sewage work begins in View Royal

The pump station will replace an existing station and prevent wastewater overflows into Portage Inlet

Construction has started on the new Craigflower pump station as part of the Capital Regional District’s $783-million secondary sewage treatment project.The pump station, to be located at 150 Island Highway, will replace an existing station and prevent wastewater overflows into Portage Inlet.Work will be conducted between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday, but some critical portions of the project may require work outside of these hours, said Kim Van Bruggen, CRD communications manager.Truck traffic close to Shoreline School field will also be minimized during the school drop-off and pick-up times, she said.The pump station will accommodate existing and future wastewater capacity in View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Esquimalt and Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.Construction is expected to be completed next fall.
