CPR Holiday Train rolls into Castlegar Tuesday

The CPR Holiday Train has been making tracks across Canada and is its way to arrive in Castlegar.

The CPR Holiday Train has been making tracks across Canada for a couple of weeks on its way to arrive in Castlegar on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 3:45 p.m.

“The Holiday Train program is all about local food banks and food shelves and the critical role they play in our communities,” said Keith Creel, CPR’s president and chief executive officer on the company’s website. “People come for the beautifully-lit train and stay for the incredible show — all in the name of the community.”

The train will stop in the CPR yard near the Castlegar Station Museum located at 400 – 13th Ave. downtown.

The stop in Castlegar will feature a live performance by Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Band.

As the goal of the Holiday Train is to assist food banks in the communities it visits, the Community Harvest Food Bank will have two tents set up on site — one to accept food donations, and one to accept monetary donations and issue tax receipts.

Hot drinks and hot dogs will be available for a donation to the Castlegar Heritage Society.

As parking is very limited, visitors are asked to walk or carpool if possible.

After the train pulls away, the Community Harvest Food Bank will be sponsoring a free movie at the the Old Castle Theatre. How the Grinch Stole Christmas will begin at 5 p.m.
