Court proceedings continue in assault on White Rock councillor

In an appearance Feb. 21, proceedings against David Hugh Watson were scheduled to continue on March 7

The second of two men charged in connection with the assault last year of a White Rock councillor outside of his Marine Drive business was back in court last week on the matter.

In an appearance Feb. 21 in Surrey Provincial Court, proceedings against David Hugh Watson were scheduled to continue on March 7.

The date is set for arraignment.

Watson – along with Andrew Ronald Bader – was charged with assault causing bodily harm following an incident on March 20 of last year.

That’s the date that Bill Lawrence – a city councillor and former co-owner of the now-closed Sandpiper Pub – was assaulted while working as a host at the front door.

Lawrence said he was put in a headlock, punched in the ribs and targeted repeatedly with “the N-word.”

Charges were sworn in late June.

Last month, Bader was scheduled to go to trial on the matter on Aug. 23.
