A fundraiser is underway to support the parents of a 15-month-old girl who died tragically on Saturday.

Uta Hayashi died on Saturday after being accidentally struck by a truck in the Big Eddy.

An online fundraiser has been launched to help her parents Kaz Hayashi and Kayo Yamomoto with their expenses while they cope with the loss of their daughter.

“Our hearts break for this family at the loss of such a precious life — a life that was so full of happiness and love, and gone too soon,” state the organizers. “While there are no words or actions we can do to make the situation even remotely bearable, we would like to help them financially, so they have one less stress in this terrible time.”

On Sunday, Kawakubo is donating all sales, gratuities and staff hours to the family. The money will go to cover their funeral costs, expenses and loss of wages. The restaurant will be open from 4–9 p.m. and reservations are recommended by calling 250-837-2467.

A celebration of life for Uta is being held at Brandon Bowers Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m.
