Motorists can expect temporary delays and detours as the city works to revamp the Northfield Road, Boundary Avenue, Highway 19A intersection.

The city is advising drivers and pedestrians that until Friday, March 16, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. access to Northfield Road from Highway 19A is blocked, Boundary Avenue is closed between Northfield Road and Mallard Drive and Boundary Avenue between Mallard Drive and Meredith Road is open only to local traffic.

Alternative recommended routes for northbound traffic are: Highway 19A, use Dorman Road. Boundary Avenue, use Meredith Road to Bowen Road.

For southbound traffic: Highway 19A, use Dorman Road or Waddington Road. Boundary Avenue, use Highway 19A and Waddington Road.

All traffic lanes are expected to be reopened by 5 p.m. daily unless the city advises otherwise.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The intersection project will widen Highway 19A to install an acceleration/merge lane, widen Northfield Road to add a left turn bay, extend the corrugated steel pipe pedestrian tunnel, remove and install concrete retaining walls for pedestrian ramps, modify traffic signals, add a light-controlled intersection, and upgrade street lighting, curbs and sidewalks. Sewerage, water mains and paving will also be upgraded.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in December.
