City seeks broadcast options

The City of Parksville is considering broadcasting their council meetings and looking for ways to archive and index meetings online.

The Parksville Community and Conference Centre Forum, where the meetings are held received an audio and video update last year — including the sound system and a new monitor, projector and three video cameras.

Council received a report from staff recommending Ottawa based iSi Global for $5,000 a year to provide the online services since no local company could provide the same indexing service.

“If we were just looking for streaming services, there are lots of local companies that do that,” city communication officer Debbie Tardiff told The News.

She said they were looking for a company able to archive meetings and keep them available online with an indexing service that would enable searching specific meetings and parts of those meetings.

Surprised by the price tag, council unanimously voted to send the item out to a request for proposals to see what local services are available and get a better sense of the possible price range from simple streaming to the full archiving and indexing package deal.
