Chilliwack invited to public consultation on the Paramount Project

Community open house ahead of the upcoming rezoning is slated for Aug. 13

Community consultation on the proposed Paramount Project for seniors is set for Aug. 13.

The open house in the Chilliwack Community Services board room will be a chance for the public to learn more the affordable senior housing proposal ahead of the rezoning hearing.

CCS is proposing to build and run the facility near Five Corners in the city’s downtown, with 44 apartment units for seniors over the age of 55. It will also have 20,000 square feet of office space for CCS programming and for others, on property owned by City of Chilliwack in the former Paramount Theatre location.

The proposed rezoning bylaw comes before council on August 7. The application is to rezone the properties from a CS (Town Centre Commercial) to a CD-28 zone, for the mixed use development, including affordable housing for seniors and commercial uses.

CCS officials said in release this week they have spent the last two years doing an in-depth review of the housing needs of Chilliwack, and the need for affordable rental housing based on income was seen as significant.

They are pledging to build a “state-of-the-art” facility.

“The Paramount Project represents our commitment to housing for seniors and to bringing together our operations to meet the needs of Chilliwack,” said CCS board chair Paul Donaldson. “Chilliwack has grown substantially and its needs have grown and changed as well. We are committed to meeting those needs and building on our more than 90 years of community service.”

The consultation session is part of their “commitment to the community and to the rezoning,” said officials.

The Paramount Project Community Consultation, is Aug. 13, 5 p.m to 7 p.m., CCS board room, 45938 Wellington.
