Chemainus residents are being asked to share their thoughts about the new Emily Carr Monument.
A public information meeting will be held this Thursday [May 31] from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Chemainus Legion to review the proposed location of the Emily Carr Monument in Chemainus.
The Emily Carr Monument Team [ECM], a committee of the Festival of Murals Society, has proposed to erect a monument to artist Emily Carr at the south entrance to Old Town. The monument would be a 50-foot-tall “MuralSculpture” incorporating 10 of Carr’s paintings.
The ECM Team has requested permission, as well as seed funding, to do this from North Cowichan council, and council has asked the Chemainus Advisory Committee to provide it with “a sense of public support” for the project, according to a press release.
To find out that sense of public support, the Chemainus Advisory Committee and the Festival of Murals Society are sponsoring Thursday’s public information meeting.
The meeting will be a chance to see a presentation about the project, an opportunity to ask questions and a chance to voice your opinion about the latest mural initiative.
