Castlegar firefighters recognized for service

The Castlegar Fire Department held its annual awards banquet last week.

More than a dozen firefighters were recognized for service milestones at the Castlegar Fire Department’s annual Christmas banquet and awards night last week.

City of Castlegar Fire Department service certificates and pins went to Lt. Laura Monsen (5 years), Kelly Schultz (15 years) and Captain Rob Borsato (15 years).

Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association Bars went to Kelly Schultz (15 years), Chaplain Gerry Rempel (15 years), Captain Rob Borsato (20 years) and Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio (20 years).

Sid Floyd, Tony Mackie, Captain Stu Ady, Captain Jim Postnikoff, Safety Officer Ike Braga and Deputy Chief Duane Monsen all received their 25 year Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association Bar.

Captain Brad Makortoff received the 30 year Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association Award Medal.

British Columbia Long Service Awards went to Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio (25 year BC medal) and Chaplain Gerry Rempel (45 year BC Bar).

The Canadian Fire Service Exemplary Service Award went to Captain Rob Borsato.

Castlegar Fire Department’s 2018 “Hoser of the Year” trophy went to Mark “Tour de Castlegar” Smith.
