Boil water advisory issued in Nanaimo

The City of Nanaimo is issuing the advisory because heavy rainfalls have increased turbidity in Nanaimo's South Forks watershed.

A boil water advisory comes into effect in Nanaimo tonight (Nov. 17).

The City of Nanaimo is issuing the advisory because heavy rainfalls have increased turbidity in Nanaimo’s South Forks watershed, according to a press release.

The city expects the turbid water to enter the distribution system in the early-morning hours Wednesday. Residents may notice that their tap water is discoloured, and they are advised to boil their drinking water for one minute.

“Once the system has cleared up and the boil water advisory has been lifted, we will advise users,” said Bill Sims, the municipality’s manager of water resources. “The city will continue to monitor and seek to lift the boil water advisory as soon as possible.”
