Bad drivers targeted

Terrace RCMP "appalled" at driving habits in and around town

DRIVERS who make rolling stops at stop signs and those who drive at excessive speeds in town and others who commit infractions are to be the subject of increased police traffic enforcement in Terrace.

That’s because Terrace RCMP say they’ll be concentrating on bad drivers over the next months.

“The driving behavior observed in and around Terrace is appalling and puts other road users at risk,” said Terrace RCMP Sergeant Mike Robinson.

“We will have extra members on shift with a focus on traffic enforcement over the next multiple weeks and they will be writing violation tickets,” he said.

During a concentrated campaign in March, officers issued 55 tickets, including 24 for people who were not wearing seatbelts.

Other offences included not having a drivers’s licence or driving without insurance.

Some common traffic offences being targeted this time and the fines that apply:

Speeding – $138 to $483

Fail to Stop at Stop sign – $167

Fail to Stop at Red Light – $167

Use Electronic Device While Driving – $368

Fail to Wear Seatbelt – $167

Drive Contrary to Restriction – $109

Fail to Display N or L sign – $109
