Alberni couple faces drug charges for second time this summer

A port Alberni couple is facing drug charges after a police bust on a Dunbar Street home.

A Port Alberni couple are facing drug charges for the second time in two months after a police raid on a home netted marijuana and drug equipment.

RCMP members served a warrant at a suspected drug house on the 4800 block of Dunbar Street on Saturday afternoon, RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan said. The bust was part of an uptown drug crackdown, Allan added.

An unspecified amount of BC Bud, scales and other drug paraphernalia were seized by police.

Five people at the home were detained by police. Two of them – a 56-year-old woman and her 44-year-old boyfriend – were taken into custody. The pair faces possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance and breach of undertaking charges, Allan said.

The couple is known to police.

In late June, a police bust at a small scale grow op on the same block of Dunbar Street yielded several pounds of marijuana. The same couple is facing drug possession and trafficking charges as a result of that incident, Allan said.

Residents are encouraged to report suspected drug activity to the local detachment by calling 723-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
