Advance poll numbers for the federal election indicate voter turnout is up roughly 30 per cent in the Skeena – Bulkley Valley riding.
This is according to Brian Roberts, returning officer for the riding, and is in comparison to 2008 federal election results when 3, 434 residents took advantage of advance polls.
“So it’s quite a jump,” Roberts said. “But, I am not sure I would attribute it all to higher interest necessarily.”
He said advance voting has been promoted by Elections Canada and other sources.
Roberts also noted that for some people advanced voting is simply more convenient.
“It’s an easy thing to do, and more people are doing that,” he said.
Residents in Terrace were able to cast their ballots in advance April 22, 23 and 25.
In the last federal election, a total number of 34,652 votes were counted from 234 polling stations in the Skeena – Bulkley Valley riding.
