A 35-year-old Abbotsford man died in Maple Ridge on Tuesday morning when his truck flipped over into a ditch filled with water, according to the Ridge Meadows RCMP.

The man was turning right from McNeil Road onto Harris Road around 7:00 a.m. when his pickup truck went into a water-filled roadside ditch. The truck flipped over, and water in the ditch was nearly eight feet deep which prevented emergency services from accessing the vehicle’s cab, according to police.

The B.C. Ambulance Service, Pitt Meadows Fire Department and local RCMP were called to the location just before 7:20 a.m.. The vehicle needed to be pulled from the ditch using a tow truck in order to remove the deceased man from the cab.

The coroner attended the scene and is now taking over the investigation. Permission from next of kin to release the man’s name has not yet been obtained.
