Jacob Brothers Construction has won a $4.6-million contract for the Admirals Road corridor improvement project in Esquimalt.

The project will improve the busy commuter route between Maplebank Road and Lyall Street with road reconstruction and improvements, the addition of bike lanes, a two-way left turn lane, traffic calming islands, replacement of underground services and street lighting upgrades.

Additional improvements along the 1.9-kilometre corridor also include sidewalk upgrades and the installation of stormwater treatment devices to protect local waterways.

“Multi-modal transportation is a council strategic priority, so we are excited to be moving forward with this important infrastructure project,” said Mayor Barbara Desjardins.

“Admirals Road is a busy regional commuter route and a prominent and valued community corridor. The planned improvements will mean a safer and more inviting experience for all users – cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.”

Jacob Brothers provided the lowest bid and was awarded the contract following a competitive tender process involving three bidders.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
