Fulton grad hired by Children’s Hospital in Ottawa

Joanna Chan has earned bachelor of health sciences in the physician assistant program at McMaster University

Fulton secondary school graduate Joanna Chan has graduated from McMaster University’s physician assistant program, and has been hired as the first ever physician assistant at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario

Chan is the newest member of the pediatric hematology/oncology team at the Ottawa hospital.

In addition to her bachelor of health sciences (physician assistant), Chan has a certificate in international development from UBC, an honours bachelor of commerce from Carleton University, and a master’s of science in public health (health promotion) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

As a new graduate, Chan joins a new and growing profession in Canada in which she will work directly with physicians and will have responsibilities including obtaining histories, performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting investigations, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and counseling patients.
