In my zeal with a new smartphone, I have videoed everything from the fun to the downright boring. When viewing a recent video clip, I was surprised when an off-colour remark was caught on video and lo and behold, it was my voice that made it!
I thought, “I am going to have to edit that out.”
Jesus said, “For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.” (Luke 8:17)
Now, having an overactive imagination, I wondered what this verse might look like: A giant screen before all mankind, where every action and intention of my life is played out in hi-def? Not an amusing thought, especially when there is no chance for editing.
Yet God sees it all right now.
I don’t think we can use the reason, “I was caught up in the moment” – the timely excuse crafted by the Vancouver rioters. That doesn’t cut it with us and certainly doesn’t cut it with God.
The real solution is to edit our movie now by not just being sad for what we have done, but doing a 180-degree turn and making every effort to ensure it doesn’t happen again. It’s just like in my marriage when I make a mistake, saying sorry to my wife is one thing, but if I am really sorry, I will do all that I can do not to repeat it.
But what about our weaknesses? Our God said He can deal with them in a one-two punch:
1. He said he will strengthen us.
2. He himself will provide an escape from our temptations.
So go ahead, edit your movie now, you will be amazed to see how your movie ends.
