Celebrity sleep consultant helps local parents

Pam Nease offers workshop to sleep-deprived parents of infants, Saturday in Vernon.

Parents of newborns may joke about sleep deprivation being a “rite of passage” but the fact is that many families suffer sleepless nights for months or years, and the toll it takes on the child and the parents is no laughing matter.

Moms whose babies keep them up at night are more likely to suffer from post-partum depression, and they’re three times more likely to be carrying an extra 11 pounds by baby’s first birthday, according to recently published research.

Chicken Little in Vernon has partnered with celebrity sleep consultant Pam Nease to offer a seminar on Saturday.

“We wanted to give our valued customers and the community the gift of sleep,” said Lindsay Anderson, owner of Chicken Little. “Over the years, I have discovered that this is the number-one parenting challenge. I also know personally as a mom what it is like when a child does not sleep well and how it can impact the entire family.”

Based in Kelowna, Nease is the resident baby and child sleep expert for Together Family Magazine and Okanagan Child Magazine.

The seminar takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the Coldwell Banker building, 3704-32nd St., suite 3C, Vernon. Pre-registration is required by e-mailing pamneasesleep@gmail.com
