ALEX HOUSE: Longhouse reno underway

Call for volunteers to help with major revitalization project

We are in a time of renewal at Alex House, embarking on a journey to restore, rebuild and renew – the Longhouse Extreme Makeover project.

This undertaking is our newest endeavour to better steward our facilities, our history and ultimately, our legacy. Investors Group is behind the project, helping us build capacity to address our facility needs over the long term and position ourselves to better serve the growing needs of our community.

The Longhouse requires approximately $300,000 in work – just for the exterior. When we add the interior needs, it makes things seem insurmountable. But it is not.

We have a passionate group of volunteers that will spend an October weekend scraping floors, sanding and painting, helping with the façade and providing us with inspiration.

What do we need? We need everyone that holds Alexandra Neighbourhood House and Camp Alex near and dear to dig deep and think about the people they know that are skilled tradespeople that may be willing to donate their time, or suppliers they have used who might consider donating materials.

If you have time to contribute, we need your support.

And if you have the means and ability to donate actual dollars to the project, we would love to share more about it.

Our ultimate goal is to be able to serve our community for another 97 years. Our buildings and our community are our greatest assets, and it is time for us to ask for help.

Call Penny at 604-535-0015 for more info on the project.

If you’ve been cleaning up your garden, dividing perennials or removing plants that just don’t work for you anymore, we’ll be happy to take them off your hands to sell at the Alexandra Festival.

Please drop them off at the native garden area at the camp anytime before May 25, and if you could pot them up, all the better. All proceeds will go to the improvement of the gardens at Alex House.
