YPDG holding auditions this week in Cedar

Yellow Point Drama will hold auditions for its spring production, The Affections of May by Norm Foster, Nov. 14 and 16.

This week, Yellow Point Drama Group (YPDG) will be holding auditions for its spring production, The Affections of May by Norm Foster.

The play is being directed by Gordon McInnis, and it will be produced March 6-22.

In The Affections of May, May’s dream of an idyllic B&B in the country is shattered when her husband, Brian, leaves her to return to his preferred lifestyle of the city. As abruptly as Brian’s departure, May finds herself being wooed and courted by two of the locals: Quinn, a one-time hometown hero gone astray, and Hank, an affable oaf, bank employee and momma’s boy.

Love, identity, self-worth and self-exploration are among the themes explored in this warm romantic comedy written by Canada’s foremost and insightful observer of the foibles and triumphs of relationships and love.

May is mid-30ish, and she’s described as pert with an earthy cuteness and an enthusiasm for her life in the country that wanes to despondency and back again.

Her husband Brian is also mid-30ish, and he’s a city boy with a flair for style and urban living.

Quinn, who is also mid-30ish, is a one-time hometown hero gone to drink and numbness, later reclaiming his self-worth through the affections of May.

Hank is mid-30ish as well, and he is vying for the affections of May, offering her the stability of his job and the wild excitement of collecting mugs just like he and his mother.

“The ages of the characters need to be similar; depending on turnout, mid-30ish could become mid-40ish, so please come to the auditions if you feel you could fit in either of those ranges,” the YPDG states in a press release.

Auditions are being held Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. in the YPDG green room at the rear of the Cedar Community Hall at 2388 Cedar Rd.
