The Kootenay Gallery and TD Canada Trust present the Selkirk Trio: Nicola Everton, clarinet, Sue Gould, piano and Jeff Faragher, cello on October 5 at Trail United Church.

The Kootenay Gallery is set to present a new season of music as part of the Gallery’s TD Canada Trust Sunday Concert Series.

The 2014-15 series will offer programming to suit all listening tastes with six concerts running October through March. Season highlights include the sweet voice of Lizzy Hoyt and her Celtic fiddling, up and coming virtuosi violin-harp duo Rebecca MacLeod and Sophie Baird-Daniel, jazz local Clinton Swanson and Victoria-based string quartet Die Mahler.

The season opens on October 5, 2 p.m. at the Trail United Church with the Kootenay-based Selkirk Trio featuring pianist Sue Gould from Golden, cellist Jeff Faragher and clarinettist Nicola Everton, both from Nelson.

The trio will reach beyond their traditional classical roots to include contemporary works, new compositions as well as jazz and Celtic favourites.

“We’d like to give this program a bit of a twist,” says Everton, who will be throwing her hand in for a rendition of Artie Shaw’s famous Jazz Concerto.

All three musicians are active chamber and orchestral musicians in B.C. and Alberta. Everton was a member of the Vancouver Symphony for over 20 years and now joins Conductor and performer, Jeff Faragher in the Symphony of the Kootenays. Susan Gould originates in Calgary and has been performing as a pianist since her debut with the Mount Royal College orchestra at the age of 11.

Outside of their busy performance schedule, music education is a passion for the trio. Jeff directs the Mountainside Chamber Music program in Nelson, Sue the Young Voices Children’s Choir in Golden while Nicola enjoys teaching privately, both adults and youth. The trio will also be sharing their music with seniors in the community as part of the Health Arts Society’s Concerts in Care program.

Date, time and place, once again: October 5, 2:00 p.m. Trail United Church, 1300 Pine Avenue.

Tickets $15 at the door for general admission or $12 for Kootenay Gallery members
