Tribute band brings classic rock to Chilliwack

Byrd Dawg is the ultimate Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel tribute band

On Friday, Feb. 2, be prepared to be transported back in time when Byrd Dawg takes to the stage at the G.W. Graham Theatre. Fronted by Wayne Remple and Joel Dietrich, Byrd Dawg pays tribute to two of the most iconic classic rock duos in history: The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel.

After playing together as an accoustic duo for a couple of years, Remple and Dietrich decided to kick it up a notch in 2014. Adding a four-piece band, the pair left behind the smaller, unplugged venues to create dynamic, high-energy shows on a larger scale, and Byrd Dawg was born.

Named after an Everly Brothers song and a genre of music, Byrd Dawg is visiting Chilliwack as part of its Old Friends tour. “I took a tour of the theatre and it looks great,” says Remple of G.W. Graham. “We can’t wait to play there.”

And although the songs they sing haven’t been new in a long time, Dietrich and Remple say it doesn’t matter. “(The music) strikes a cord with people of all ages,” explains Dietrich. “But people who were young in the 1960s and 70s are really going to appreciate it.

“We’ve had people with tears in their eyes say (the music) transported them back to their youth,” he adds. “We help them relive a lot of great memories form that era.”

The show starts at 7:00, with the doors opening at 6:30. Tickets are $35, and can be purchased online at ChilliwackArtsCouncil.com, or in person at The Art Room.
