Nova Scotia duo to perform at Nanoose Library Hall

Bluegrass, gospel, country music coming for Feb. 25 concert

Nova Scotia musicians Roxeen & Dalrymple will bring their blend of tradition and distinctive, homegrown sound to the Nanoose Library Hall on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Roxeen & Dalrymple may be one of the Nova Scotia’s newest acoustic acts, but they are far from being new on the music scene. Originally teamed together 25 years ago as bandmates of the legendary Spinney Brothers, a life of separate musical paths has brought them back together. Roxeen & Dalrymple is a classic guitar and mandolin duet, a tour de force of vocals, rhythm and traditional melodies.

Individually the duo consists of Roxeen Roberts and Gary Dalrymple. Collectively they are highly respected, veteran musicians with impressive musical resumes.

They are multiple East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs) nominees, Maritime Gospel Music awards (MGMA) nominees, and have won numerous Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards (ECBMAs). They have toured coast to coast in Canada and the United States and now, after careers of extensive travel and performing and recording, the duo couldn’t be more excited about where they have landed musically.

As Roberts recently noted, “we honestly love and cherish the classic sounds of traditional bluegrass, country and gospel music.”

They honour the music of the past yet embrace the present through their own originality. Gary Dalrymple said, “we both grew up on the sounds of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton etc. You know, the good stuff. It is this style of music that we are so excited to be performing. Our show includes many of the standards, however, expect to hear some of our own material… that are heavily influenced by the music we were raised on.”

The duo said they are thrilled to be coming to Nanoose Bay. Their Feb. 25 date is one of numerous performances during their British Columbia tour. They also have stops in Port Alberni, Crofton and Victoria. In general, Roxeen & Dalrymple have had a busy last several months, touring Alberta, Ontario, Newfoundland, and numerous locations in the Maritimes.

Music on Feb. 25 at Nanoose Library Hall (2489 Nanoose Rd.) will start at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. For tickets and info contact 250-228-0767. Tickets are $20.
