Mill Lake Music Concert Series continues in Abbotsford

Entertainment every Saturday outside Kariton Art Gallery

The Mill Lake Music Concert Series continues with The Lonesome Town Painters, Rachel and Ted, and the Molten Blues Band over the next three Saturdays.

The series takes place every Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. until Aug. 31 outside Kariton Art Gallery (2387 Ware St.) at Mill Lake Park.

The Lonesome Town Painters perform July 27. They are a tried-and-true, bona fide bluegrass band hailing from the Pacific Northwest.

They have a look, style and sound that hearkens back to the raw and ragged edge of the genre. And while they draw deeply from the masters of the genre’s golden era, it’s their original songs that demonstrate just how far they have come.

Their songwriting is grounded in tradition and anchored by soaring harmonies, melodic instrumentation, and a pushing drive.

On Aug. 3, Rachel and Ted perform classic jazz and swing standards from the 1920s to ’60s, featuring Rachel’s classic voice and versatile range, and Edward’s strong guitar accompaniment and background vocals.

The Molten Blues Band are up next on Aug. 10. They were formed at the beginning of 2017 and consist of Mike on guitar and vocals; Chuck on keyboard and sax; Charles on bass and harmonies; and George on drums.

By the end of 2017, they were awarded a Fraser Valley Music Award for Best Performance Band of the year.

The group has played in various venues in the Fraser Valley, including the Dewdney Pub, the Fraser Valley Blues Society, the Backstage Lounge, the Blackbird Room at the Flamingo, the Stage in Mission, and The Railyard.

They are currently in the studio working on a new original CD.

Concert goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on, as seating is limited. Visit for more information.
