Mayworks wraps up the month with sculpture tour

Festival celebrating the working person heads to Deep Bay

final week of this years’ festival with an open house at the W.C.  (Bill) Friesen Sculpture garden in Deep Bay on Sunday, May 29.

This is the second year that Mayworks will hold an open house at Friesen’s sculpture garden. The public is invited to come and take a leisurely stroll through the stunning sculpture set in a beautiful old forest setting. 

This year will feature demonstrations by Vancouver Island guest artists  Joe Rosenblatt, Jeff Hartbower and Patrick Acton.  

An added feature will be a mystery artist who will be giving away free art.     

The Kumbana Marimba Band will entertain throughout the afternoon. Hot dogs and drinks will be available.  Admission is free.

 Sculptor, Bill Friesen has been active in the arts on Vancouver Island since 1993.  In 2005 he, with  much assistance from members of the Oceanside Coalition for Strong Communities, established the Mayworks Festival in Parksville.  

In addition to Mayworks  the sculpture garden is open to the public from May through to September. Friesen’s gallery is located at 5160 Gainsberg Road in Deep Bay. It will be open  from 1 to 5 p.m. For details call 250-757-2023 or e-mail   — Submitted
