Nathan Sands has published his first book, a post apocalyptic satire with a blend of poetry where parables and proverbs play out in the distant and near future.
The Event Horizon tells the story of a floating vessel holding what remains of a higher humanity. A slave caste tills the earth for their master when the elected emperor, Alexander, calls his people up and abandons Achilles, a desperate and eager leader who lives in a tormented mind, to lead the incompetent remnants of humanity.
The Maple Ridge author originally wrote the novel to pass on some of his thoughts and ideas to his daughter about the preciousness and fragility of life. The story came to him in a dream and was molded by his time in the Canadian Forces as an infantry soldier as well as his extensive research in philosophy, religion, political science and literature.
He is already in the editing stages of the sequel to The Event Horizon.
Austin Macauley Publishers released The Event Horizon in the United Kingdom last month and it will be available in the United States in 2018.
Although there is currently no distribution plans for Canada, Sands will be doing book signings, starting this weekend.
His first signing will be taking place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Bean Around Books at 22626 Lougheed Hwy. in Maple Ridge.
