Library celebrates sounds of vinyl

Wide range of music featured at special music event

It will be a celebration of music as the Summerland branch of the Okanagan Regional Library holds Vinyl Night at the branch on Saturday evening.

Caroline McKay, assistant community librarian at the branch, said the event will feature the music of earlier decades.

She said she and others on staff at the library have fond memories of listening to vinyl records when they were younger.

“Playing records was a favourite pastime of mine growing up,” she said.

The music will feature artists and bands including Nat King Cole, Abba, David Bowie, Prince and others.

“We’re going to play a wide range of music,” McKay said.

Those attending the event are also urged to bring their favourite vinyl record albums, and one library patron has already told staff he plans to bring some of his Bob Dylan albums.

The event, on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 7 to 10 p.m., will also feature dancing, food and wine from Summergate Winery.
