Harrison Festival lines up Cool Yule Christmas show

For the first time in years, Harrison Festival Society lines up Christmas performance

With the holiday season upon us, the Harrison Festival Society is kicking festivities into full swing with its presentation of Cool Yule on Dec. 15.

The show mixes together nostalgic favourites, jazz standards, pop tunes, classical elements, and sing-alongs to engage the whole family. And with an assemblage of Christmas baking to snack on, audience members of all ages are sure to be pleased.

A fun, joyous combination of swing music and Christmas cheer, Cool Yule is produced by Vancouver-based swing quartet, Van Django, and is the first Christmas show the Society has held in several years.

“Christmas is usually a busy time of year, so we’re never sure if (putting on a show) will work out, but it seems to be this year,” says Andy Hillhouse, Artistic Director for the Harrison Festival Society.

Each year, the Society assembles and hosts the nine-day, multicultural Harrison Art Festival, which attracts musicians and artists from across the nation. And all proceeds from Cool Yule are going to go towards next year’s anniversary of the Festival’s beginning, said Hillhouse.

“It’s our 40th anniversary,” he says. “We want to make sure we have the funds to hire the artists we want and to have a few extra things … to explore (next year’s) theme. The additional funds will help us make it a very special celebration.”
