Gryphon Trio coming to Nelson

Artists here for first time since 2013

The internationally acclaimed Gryphon Trio returns to Nelson in early February as part of its 25th anniversary tour of B.C., United States and Mexico.

The Nelson Overture Concerts Society presents the two-time Juno-awarding winning Canadian trio in concert at the Capitol Theatre on Feb. 3.

With a repertoire that ranges from the traditional to the contemporary and from European classicism to modern-day multimedia, the Gryphons are committed to redefining chamber music. Their 19 recordings are an encyclopedia of works for the genre. Honours include two Juno Awards for Classical Album of the Year, and the prestigious 2013 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts from the Canada Council.

Deeply committed to the education of the next generation of audiences and performers alike, the Gryphons frequently conduct masterclasses and workshops at universities and conservatories, and are Artists-in-Residence at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and Trinity College.

For their Nelson audience, the Gryphon Trio’s program will consist of Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio no. 45 in E-flat major, Love Triangle by Dinuk Wijeratne and the Piano Trio no. 1 in B major, op.8 by Johannes Brahms. The concert will take place at the Capitol Theatre on Saturday Feb. 3rd at 8 p.m. Tickets are $27.50 for adults and are available at or by phoning 250-352-6363. Admission is free for students aged 18 and under. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by a paid adult. A seat must be reserved for each person.

The Gryphon Trio last performed in Nelson on October 24, 2013.
