Magical soldiers, mice and the Sugar Plum Fairy will all be on stage as the Nutcracker ballet comes to Surrey.
For Surrey resident Chloe Choroszewski, this is her seventh year performing in the Nutcracker with the Royal City Youth Ballet (RCYB). In this season’s production, her roles include Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen and Rose.
Donna Fishwick, RCYB board of director, said Choroszewski is a talented young dancer with 10 years of ballet training.
This is RCYB’s 26th year presenting the classic Christmas production at various locations throughout southwestern B.C. Bringing a fresh vibe this year are artistic director Camilla Fishwick-Kellogg and executive director Trisha Sinosich-Arciaga.
Among the total 20 performances, there will be five shows at the Surrey Arts Centre Dec. 12-14. So far, the shows in other communities have been fantastic, said Fishwick.
“We have a great group of dancers and the audiences have been really good,” she said. Shows have already taken place in Abbotsford, Maple Ridge and Burnaby.
The Surrey shows take place Dec. 12, 7 p.m., and Dec. 13 and 14, 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets range from $22-$33 and are available online at tickets.surrey.ca or by calling 604-501-5566.
