Gallery trying to find artists for Found Object exhibit

Found Object art is from objects that are not normally considered materials from which art is made.

Smithers Art Gallery is inviting artists to participate in our upcoming Found Objects exhibition from January 30-March 3, 2018. This is a non-juried community show open to artists of all experience levels aged 13 years and up.

‘Found Object’ — sometimes referred to as objet trouvĂ© — describes art created from undisguised, but often modified, objects that are not normally considered materials from which art is made, often because they already have a non-art function.

A found object can be natural or man-made, or a fragment of an object, that is found (or sometimes bought) and kept because of some intrinsic interest the artist sees in it. It may be treated as a work of art in itself, as well as provide inspiration for the artist. Found objects may be modified by the artist and presented as art, either more or less intact, or as part of an assemblage (art that is made by assembling disparate elements).

To participate, artists need to submit a registration form by January 23, 2018. Guidelines and registration forms are available at www.smithersart.org.
