The Elizabeth Scott Vocal Choral Bursary directors have announced this year’s scholarship winner.
Siobhan Raupach is the eldest of four musical offspring of Drs. Bernadette and Heinz Raupach. Both of her brothers have reached the top 10 in the Our Kids Have Talent competition with their guitar and cello groups.
“Two years ago, she gave a benefit performance in Vernon at her church and the audience members were most impressed with her voice,” said Catherine Dawson, bursary director.
A 2008 Kalamalka Secondary School graduate, Raupach has been involved in music studies since she was seven. A student of Terry Logan, she also studied piano, sang in Logan’s choir, Chantant, and played clarinet with her school concert and jazz bands.
While in school, she excelled at many regional music festivals and competed at the provincials several times. She was a winner in her solo class in 2005. Throughout this time, she also maintained an exceptionally high average in her school work.
After graduation, Raupach moved to Montreal and attended McGill’s school of music.
“There she has continued to maintain a high average in all of her courses, and has become quite fluent in German and Italian,” said Dawson.
This summer Raupach is spending time in Italy attending the COSI program in Sulmona, where she will be singing the role of Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro.
Raupach returns to McGill this September and is planning to apply for a place in a graduate degree program in opera performance.
“We wish her well in this endeavour and in her future career in opera,” said Dawson.
