More than $3,000 was raised for the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation at Envision Financial’s first annual shredding event.
The event was held on March 10 and was part of the national Fraud Prevention Month.
Three hundred people attended the event and 122 people took advantage of the complimentary and secure onsite shredding services provided by Iron Mountain.
“This event also gave us the opportunity to educate many people on the importance of protecting their personal information, sharing tips on how they can protect themselves from becoming a victim of identity theft,” said Lindzee Herring, the senior manager of corporate security at First West Credit Union.
Envision donated $20 for each person who brought something to shred and combined with some donations from the public, more than $3,000 was raised.
More than 6,600 pounds of material was shredded.
“The Langley RCMP was thrilled to partner with Envision Financial to host this free shredding event,” said Langley RCMP Corp. Holly Marks. “As we shared at the event, while identity theft is a reality in our society, it is often a preventable crime. By shredding your personal information, you are taking a proactive approach to avoid being a victim. As police officers, we see identity theft all too often so we encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity if they are able.”
Envision has a longstanding partnership with BCCHF, which involves all aspects of its business including financial donations, employee engagement and member involvement. Known for its commitment to making a real difference in its local communities, Envision contributed $1.0 million in charitable donations to worthy causes and organizations in communities across B.C. in 2011.
