New taxi service up and running in Sicamous

Sicamous Taxi now in operation, offering ride hailing, airport shuttle service

Following more than a year without a taxi service, Sicamous residents can hail a cab once again.

Sicamous Taxi, operated by Krysta Lachowski, has been up and running for just over three weeks now.

The idea to revive taxi service in Sicamous has been in the works for a while.

After seeing that there was need for a taxi service in the district, which has no buses, Lachowski began the process of applying for a taxi licence. She said the application process throughout the BC Passenger Transportation Branch took more than seven months.

Although it started up in a slow season for Sicamous, after peak boating and golf season but before large numbers of snowmobilers arrive, Lachowski said her service is already very well used on the weekends.

Sicamous Taxi already has one van on the road and Lachowski said it will be followed by another soon.

While the vans are not equipped with a wheelchair ramp or lift, Lachowski said they are low to the ground and fairly easy to get into for those with mobility challenges.

Along with the ability to hail a taxi to get around Sicamous, the taxi company will offer pre-booked airport shuttle service to the Kelowna and Kamloops airports.

Lachowski, who has lived in Sicamous for the past 14 years, said her daughter Brooke played a major role in helping get the business started, including helping to choose the decals that adorn the side of the van.

The service is currently operating from 6 a.m. to midnight Sunday to Thursday and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. Sicamous Taxi can be reached at 250-803-6677.
