It's easy to discover wet noses and warm tongues among the grapes at a number of B.C. wineries. To find them it's as easy as checking the date — thanks to the 2009 Winery Dogs of B.C. calendars animal and wine lovers can learn about the province's wineries and their furry ambassadors.

Author and CBC Time For Wine columnist Troy Townsin has, for the second year, published this calendar after wildly successful sales last year. Townsin says when visitors make the trip to wineries, a big part of the experience is interaction with people and the dogs that work and live at the winery. With 2009 WInery Dogs of B.C., readers can plan their wine tour not only around the pinot gris and gewurztraminer of their choice, but also to include the four-legged workers they'd like to meet.

Since Townsin has visited most of the province's wineries (over 150), he's met many tail-wagging emissaries of tasty vintages.

A number of last year's favourites like Filbert the Dachshund from Golden Mile Cellars and Bud and Maggie the labradoodles from Lake Breeze are making colourful returns and will be joined some new faces. One such canine representing one of the 12 months is Bruno from Silkscarf, who can be seen riding in the truck with his arm out the window like a human passenger. And these dogs are posing, not just for fame, but also to help their fellow pooches.

A portion of the proceeds are donated to the BCSPCA — last year's inaugural calendar brought in over $1,200 for the organization.

The calendars — a great gift for those who didn't get a chance to visit the province's wineries or those who have and made some memorable friends — are available at partcipating wineries throughout B.C. or through www.polyglotpublishing.com.

Like dogs but enjoy food more? Townsin has recently revised and updated his award-winning Gourmand World cookbook Cooking with B.C. Wine, which now includes over 50 new wineries.
