Welcome to Wine Trails Fall 2008 Harvest Edition
Out going Editor Dani Hiebert (left) passes the wine (trails) to Associate Editor/Director of Sales, Jennifer Schell-Pigott
The rumors are true— I’m having a baby! Needless to say, the last six months of my job have been a little different than the two and a half years prior! The days of traveling from winery to winery in search for the province’s most fabulous and interesting wines came to an abrupt halt when morning (afternoon and evening) sickness began. Tragically the very scent of wine from across the restaurant would send me to the restroom. When the queasiness subsided the only friendly wines I found were the fruity summer roses or gewürztraminers— an ounce and a half over ice with sparkling mineral water made me feel like “part of the team” on special occasions. But surprisingly overall I have found it more difficult to be banned from riding my horse than drinking wine.
Thankfully I have a team of enthusiastic and talented freelance writers who are more than happy to pick up the slack on the tasting end of things until my palate is back to normal. Our newly appointed Associate Editor Jennifer Schell-Pigott will be taking over my position as Editor and Director of Sales while I’m on maternity leave spending the year with baby Hiebert who is due to make her debut on December 15th, 2008. My husband Kurt and I are very excited about the birth of our first child— this should be the best Christmas ever!
Your homework while I’m gone is to get out there enjoy one of the Fall Wine Festivals and find your favourite new releases, share the news with your friends and if you’d like to, email Jen your discoveries you can do so at winetrails@blackpress.ca
