Oak Bay police are looking for the owner of six unique diecast models of classic cars.
The metal cars were found by a man looking for bottles in a garbage bin outside the Oak Bay Recreation Centre on Tuesday, said Const. Laurence Riel.
"You don't throw these things out. We're thinking they were stolen," he said. "They could have been stolen from a break and enter. They could have been stolen out of a car. It's possible what may have happened is the culprits involved stashed them in the garbage to come and pick them up at a later time. The thing is, we don't know where they came from."
As of Tuesday afternoon, Riel said the department hadn't received any reports of stolen model cars. Word was expected to be sent out to other police agencies in the region in case the cars belong to someone outside Oak Bay.
Anyone with information about the antique cars is asked to contact the department at 250-592-2424. Anyone looking to claim the cars will need to provide a description of all the models.
