When the Mount Douglas Rams senior boys AAA varsity football team squared off against the top ranked Terry Fox Ravens on Friday, they stared down what some people are calling the greatest high school football team ever assembled.
And so the Rams can hold their heads high after losing 63-16 to the top-ranked Ravens.
Rams’ associate coach Mark Townsend said Terry Fox lived up to their billing, as they took control of the game early.
There were notable Rams’ highlights despite the lopsided score. Bryan Rideout and Zack Sandulescu each scored touchdowns for Mt. Doug and as a team, the Rams rushed for 176 yards on 31 carries. The Rams’ passing game finished with 11 completions on 27 attempts, gaining a total of 83 yards.
Running back T.J. Farinu led the rush with 45 yards while Alex Anthony was the leading receiver with three receptions for 38 yards.
Rideout was certainly a standout in the game, said Townsend, as was the leading Rams’ tackler defensively.
Tyler Greener and Caleb Luke were the next busiest tacklers, making their presence felt in the Rams’ backfield.
With the loss the Rams finish their 2008 AAA season with a combined conference, playoff and exhibition record of 8-3 record.
