Pee Wee Devils hope to get hot at right time

The top 13- and 14-year-old girls softball players in B.C. converge on View Royal’s Centennial Park today.

The 15-team Pee Wee A provincial championships start today (July 18) and wind up Sunday. Joining the host Victoria Fastball Club Devils are teams from around the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and northern B.C.

The top eight teams from the four-game round robin advance to the elimination round Saturday. The top three teams finishers qualify for the nationals in Le Perreux, Que., held the second week of August. Fourth through sixth will play in the Western Canadian tournament in Richmond.

Area teams have done well in provincial play this month. Bantam A girls (Devils ’92) and boys (Langford Lightning) teams earned a trip to the nationals, while the Midget B girls gold medallist Strawberry Vale Shock advanced to the Western Canadians in Winnipeg.

Strawberry Vale took bronze in the Midget C girls tournament.
