Victoria's Ryder Hesjedal had his best finish in Friday's stage 13 leg of the 2009 Tour de France since stage six.

Staying with the peloton six minutes and 43 seconds back of Friday's winner Heinrich Haussler, Hesjedal completed the 200 kilometres between Viettel and Colmar in five hours, three minutes and nine seconds.

He climbed nine spots to 60th overall with eight stages remaining, a strong recovery since wiping out in stage 11 on Wednesday when he dropped to 156 of 166 riders.

Hesjedal's best position so far was 21st, which he held through stages four and five.

Stage 14 on Saturday is a 199 km stretch from Colmar to Besancon.
