For the second straight year Ryder Hesjedal of the Highlands district has finished in the top third of the Tour de France, the world's elite road-cycling race.
He was the only Canadian on the tour.
Hesjedal completed the 3459.5 kilometre, 21-stage race in 87 hours, two minute and 38 seconds, finishing 49th overall, one hour and 14 minutes back of winner Alberto Contador of Spain.
It is Contador's second Tour de France win, his first in 2007.
Hesjedal's team, Garmin-Slipstream, finished second to team Astana, which features the winner Contador and third place finisher Lance Armstrong. Garmin-Slipstream was 22 minutes, 35 seconds back.
Hesjedal played a big part part in helping teammate Bradley Wiggins (UK) finish fourth overall, just 37 seconds back of Armstong.
