Victoria's Ryder Hesjedal had his best race of any stage at the Tour de France Wednesday, finishing 26th through the 169.5 km stage 17.
Cyclists have completed 8851.5 km.
Thursday's 40 km ride circled Lac d'Annecy in the Alps, TdF's last time trial. Hesjedal finished 43rd and is now at 55th overall with three stages remaining. His team, Garmin Slipstream, has had much success in the middle stages of the tour and are second overall behind top-team Astana, which features overall leader Alberto Contador (Spain).
Hesjedal's teammate Bradley Wiggins (UK) has climbed to within 11 seconds of third place Lance Armstrong.
