Golden League baseball coming to Victoria

The expansion Victoria Seals of the Golden Baseball League have announced an agreement with the City of Victoria to play their inaugural season out of Royal Athletic Park in 2009.

The team was brought to Victoria by the father-son team of Russ and Darren Parker.

Dad, Russ, owns the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League and for 16 years successfully operated baseball’s Triple-A Calgary Cannons in the Pacific Coast League team until 2001.

Guided at this point by general manager Jay Longpre, the Seals are set to open the season next May and expect to play the majority of their games in Canada.

The non-affiliated semi-pro league includes teams in California. The calibre of play is considered roughly on par with the class-A minor leagues.
